By the time I could remember my grandma, she couldn’t remember me. My only memories of her are talking to her on the phone and reminding her who I was. I think this photo was taken on one of her last trips out to the islands. People always told me, I had her genes, cause I was an artist. She’s always been a source of inspiration and mystery to me.
I thank my Aunt Teresa who worked so faithfully as her caretaker during her passage through Alzheimer’s Disease. I am in awe by the resilient caretakers out there. Over the years, I continue to be humbled by the strong family members I meet within the Alzheimer’s community.
A series of paintings I made between 2016 and 2017. I partnered with the Logan, UT chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association to spread awareness. I sold my paintings and gifted half the sales to the Association.
